    Apologia offers two anatomy courses:

    • Elementary Level: Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology is part of the Young Explorer Series and is designed for students in grades K–6.
    • High School Level: Exploring Creation with Advanced Biology: The Human Body is ideal for students in grades 11–12 and is a full-year, college-prep course.
  • Do these courses count as science credit?

    Yes!

    • The elementary course is a full-year science curriculum suitable for meeting elementary homeschool science requirements.
    • The high school course qualifies as an advanced biology credit with lab, making it ideal for students preparing for college or pursuing a science track.
  • Is a hands-on lab component included?

    Yes!

    • The elementary course includes fun, hands-on activities, experiments, and notebooking activities to reinforce learning—no dissection or formal lab work required.
    • The high school course includes optional but highly recommended lab work, including dissection.

Both courses include complete supply lists needed to complete the hands-on activities and labs.

  • Are these courses taught from a Christian perspective?

Absolutely. Apologia’s anatomy curriculum is written from a Biblical worldview, helping students see the amazing design of the human body as evidence of God’s handiwork.

  • How long do the courses take to complete?

Each course is designed as a full-year science curriculum. The student notebook includes a suggested daily schedule for easy, convenient planning.

  • Are there digital or audio options available?

    Yes!

    • The elementary course offers an audiobook version of the textbook for auditory learners or families on the go.

  • Are there any prerequisites for these anatomy courses?

    • There are no prerequisites for the elementary anatomy course.
    • The prerequisites for the high school course are Algebra 1, Biology, & Chemistry.
  • Do I need any special background or training to teach these courses?

Not at all! Apologia is designed for homeschool families, with everything clearly explained for parents and students. You don’t need a background in science to teach or supervise the course successfully.

  • Can this anatomy curriculum be used in a homeschool co-op?

Yes! Apologia’s science curriculum is a popular choice for homeschool co-ops and group settings. The hands-on experiments and discussion prompts work well in collaborative learning environments.

  • Is reproduction discussed in the elementary Human Anatomy and Physiology textbook?

In Exploring Creation with Human Anatomy and Physiology, Lesson 14 covers growth and development. This lesson discusses how we started from a single cell that divided many times. These cells developed into a person that grew inside the mother’s womb. This lesson explains the development of each person outside the womb and progresses to explain genetics, chromosomes, mitosis, and meiosis. The lesson then concludes with a discussion on being made in God’s image.

Another section compares creation and evolution, and students are encouraged to continue their growth and development with daily reading in God’s Word. In this textbook, the terms “sperm,” “egg,” and “abortion” are never used. The textbook does not teach details of sexual health or the physical and hormonal changes that occur during the teen years.
