FAQs

  • Can my students of different ages learn science together?

Yes! Apologia’s science curriculum is designed to be flexible and engaging for multiple ages, making it ideal for homeschooling families with children at different grade levels. Our Young Explorer Series (for K-6) and other programs use a conversational approach and hands-on activities that can be easily adapted to different learning abilities. Older students can dive deeper into concepts, while younger ones enjoy foundational learning, allowing the whole family to explore science together in a meaningful way

  • Does Apologia Math for elementary grades correspond to Apologia Science for K-6?

While we have designed each level of Apologia elementary math to share some aspect of a design theme with a title from Apologia’s science Young Explorer Series, each math and science course can be completed separately. None of the courses are dependent on the other. For example, Level 1 mathematics has an astronomy design theme, and icons in the book include astronauts and rockets. A few hands-on activities also have an astronomy theme, like creating a rocket number line to use in learning addition and subtraction. Apologia chose the design connections to help your student see the connections between abstract mathematical concepts and the real world. Other than a similar design theme, there is no direct connection between Apologia’s elementary science and math courses.

  • Should we do the elementary science books in a particular order?

No, and that’s the beauty of the Young Explorer Series. We recommend you begin with the topic you and your students believe to be most interesting right now. You can view the sample first lesson of each elementary science title to explore them in more depth before choosing. Some parents find that teaching the more complicated Anatomy & Physiology and Chemistry & Physics courses are best reserved for upper elementary students.

We offer a curriculum path chart as one possible course sequence for elementary science.
