One of the great benefits of homeschooling is the parent can determine what is best for their child and in what order they complete their studies! The below recommended course sequence is one possible curriculum path option your child can take, but you as the parent can determine what path is best for each child.
If you’d like to discuss alternate paths, please feel free to reach out to our customer service team.
The beauty of the Young Explorer science series is that each textbook is a K-6 science course. The content can be simply understood by a kindergarten student, but it can also be comprehended and enjoyed through the sixth grade. Therefore, a parent can do one course with multiple children. This makes reading time doable and enjoyable for the whole family.
Our elementary math curriculum has simple-to-follow levels, and we offer a placement test so you can determine which level will work best for your child.
The Word in Motion Bible curriculum and the What We Believe worldview series are both appropriate for grades K-8. We suggest completing the Bible curriculum first followed by the worldview series in order.
We made the following curriculum path chart as an option, a way to help you get started.
Apologia’s K-12th grade creation-based curriculum is written with a Biblical worldview that helps support you as you shape your children’s minds, hearts, and souls. We strive to promote strong family bonds by encouraging an atmosphere of learning together.
Apologia’s Scope and Sequence will provide a detailed view of what topics are covered in each course so you can decide which curriculum products are the right fit for your child.
Download the Scope and SequenceThe suggested schedule found in every student notebook allows students to complete an entire textbook, experiments and all, in approximately two weeks of work per module. Families should review the schedule and modify it to fit their needs as necessary. Students check off each day when the assigned work is completed as a way of recording their progress. At a glance, parents can easily see their student’s advancement.
All Apologia textbooks and notebooks are written to students in a conversational tone so that young people can easily navigate through the curriculum on their own. As students are engaged in a learning conversation, they become confident to not only speak about a subject but also understand how the concepts work in the real world. Apologia’s curriculum helps students methodically learn, self-check, and master difficult concepts before moving on. There is no skimming over the reading materials only to find gaps in comprehension during a test.
Students of all ages are full of “why” and “wow.” They’re fun to watch when something has caught their attention. You can almost see their world expand as they build on the knowledge about the world in which they live. Apologia’s curriculum is designed with hands-on activities and experiments that are easily performed in a homeschool setting. While textbooks are necessary to help students acquire scientific facts, it is essential for students to actively participate in the scientific process of discovery to gain a personal awareness of their world.
Apologia textbooks have two types of experiments:
All experiments teach students how to collect and analyze data, both scientific and mathematical, to formulate a hypothesis based on inductive and deductive problem-solving skills, and to understand the limitations of data and conclusions. Every student notebook has dedicated pages for lab reports. These templates help students write complete lab reports using the scientific method.
After reviewing their notes, students are prepared to complete a Study Guide found after every module to prepare for their test. Students are instructed to attempt to answer every question without referring back to any notes. They then analyze how far they got. If they complete the Study Guide successfully, they should move on to their test. If there are areas that students can not complete, they should first use their notes to complete unfinished sections. If their notes are not sufficient to answer the remaining Study Guide questions, they learn that they need to take more detailed notes in the future. Ultimately, students can refer back to the textbook to find the answers. This process of knowledge first, notes second, and restudy third helps students to learn good notetaking and study habits.
Students will take a test after each module. These tests should be considered closed book tests which means that students should be tested on their knowledge without the aid of their textbooks or notebooks. Apologia recommends that student tests be graded by a parent. The answers to the tests can be found in the Solutions Manual. We also recommend that parents give the graded tests back to the student and permit the student to use notes and textbooks to correct any incorrect answers. Half credit can be given for these responses once they are corrected properly.
We recommend this technique so that students learn from their mistakes. There is no purpose to moving on if understanding is lacking. Apologia’s curriculum plan is rigorous and considered to be college preparatory. We will be with your students every step of the way, ensuring their success.

At Apologia, we’ve asked ourselves, “What makes a successful science curriculum?” Here are three things we consider important while developing our award-winning K-12th grade science courses:
With Apologia Science, students truly grow to love and understand all that creation has to offer by recognizing God’s signature throughout all creation. We focus on the joy of learning through human curiosity while maintaining and building upon a strong connection between the parent, student, and God.
